In fact, this lightweight 2.5-layer shell is breathable enough for you to keep on hiking while the rain pours, the wind blows and your heart rate climbs. Though, if you do work up a sweat, you can release some steam with the underarm vents. Other ways the Venture II Jacket successfully keeps bad weather at bay are the Velcro cuffs and main zip storm flap, the covered zipped hand pockets and the fully adjustable hood. I was a true Berghaus fan for years but decided to give North Face a try this time. Bought a Venture jacket and a great bit of kit it really is. Very light but feels quite sturdy, great hood and plenty of room for fleece underneath, love the pit zips. Really pleased with it shook off all the Galtee mountains had to throw at it with ease. Thanks Berghaus you were good for years but The North Face will get my money now

I'm on my second Venture jacket now. The first one I had, I managed to trap it in the doors of my washing machine, and after the vigorous hour long cycle...it was slightly ripped. That must be what it takes to damage this very tough, but extremely lightweight jacket (13.5oz). Waterproofness and breathability are what you would expect from TNF - no complaints at all. I've read other reviews online that complain that the water doesn't 'bead off' after a few months...well duh? Of course it won't, and neither will it off a £300 Goretex jacket. ALL waterproof shells need to be treated at some point. Although a rinse cycle in the washing machine and a warm iron will revive the factory coating after at least a year of hard use, a home treatment of Nikwax or similar will be needed at some point. The 'Venture' jacket is priced higher than the very similar 'Resolve' jacket, and this price difference comes from a few small differences. The Venture is lighter as it has no lining, and relies on the HyventDT diamond print/pattern on the inside to keep the shell off your skin and so keep the wearer comfortable. The Resolve jacket manages the same effect with its mesh lining, but the Resolve will come in heavier for having said lining. The Resolve also does not have underarm pit-zips like the Venture has. But unless you are a serious trekker or climber, I'd also consider the Resolve jacket as a cheaper alternative to the Venture. In fact, when my new Venture finally gives up the ghost....I may buy the Resolve myself. But that is no bad reflection on the wonderful Venture jacket. It's an amazing product at a very affordable price. The Goretex 'paclite' type jackets on the market don't look quite so tempting when you can buy either the Venture or Resolve jackets from TNF at over half the price less. It's a no-brainer.

this jacket is not only flexible to all types of weather and terrain but also offers/doubles up as warm kit used on s.a.s selection and thought it was worth its weight in gold
